Thank you to all our patients who submitted entries to the 2016 Mitchell and Bartlett Scholarship program. We received more than 40 entries, ranging from magnificent artwork and heartfelt essays to beautiful songs and creative poetry!  All entries and applications deserved a great deal of consideration and discussion, which made it very difficult to select just one winner. Therefore, we are proud to announce that we have three award winners this year!

The winner of our $1,000 scholarship is Alexander Hoffman!  Alex’s “What Does Your Smile Say” scholarship entry was quite brilliant. He created a “playlist” of 14 songs, including “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Come Together” that described his experience with braces, the story of how Alex achieved his smile, and what his smile means. Alex is a rising senior at UNC Chapel Hill with an outstanding academic record while studying to complete a double major. Community service projects have taken Alex across America and have included charities for special needs children here in North Carolina.

The runner-up, receiving a $500 scholarship, is Danlee Brown. Danlee wrote a poem expressing the story told by her smile and her journey while in braces. Graduating from high school this past school year, Danlee was an honor roll student and is excited to start her college career at UNC Chapel Hill in the fall. In honor of her grandfather who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, Danlee started Triad Team Fox to raise money for Parkinson’s research.

The honorable mention award of $250 goes to Christian Dickerson.  Christian’s original essay expressed how he uses his smile to make a difference, not only in his own life but in others’ lives as well. A recent graduate from high school as an honor roll student, Christian will continue his education at UNC Charlotte this fall. Christian played baseball and basketball in high school and is an active member of his church’s Community Outreach Program.

Education and philanthropy are highly important to us at Mitchell, Bartlett & Bell Orthodontics. We congratulate all our scholarship entrants on your remarkable efforts and encourage you to embark upon your future with continued passion and success.
